FIRST BREATHING EXERCISE THEBHASTRIKAControlled Deep Breathing, the Bhastrika is a simple and effective way to charge yourself and acquire a new stream of energy that stays with you all day long.
Now you may say, breathing is breathing, and it's breathing that we do all day when we are up and all night when we are asleep; so what's the big deal? Good question. Here's the explanation- what we do all our life without even thinking about it is plain shallow breathing, whereas what I am going to introduce here is Controlled Deep Breathing or Bhastrika. And there is all the big deal about it that you should experience from Day 1. There is a complete discipline of just breathing researched and recorded in an ancient Indian scientific treatise. And according to that there are more than a hundred different ways you can breathe to achieve completely different results, each one different from the other. Get set for Bhastrika You can choose any time of the day for your exercise as long as you have not eaten full stomach for the last about 6 hours or have not had a light meal for about 3 hours. However for the best results choose an early morning hour after ablutions and preferably after taking bath, Choose a quiet comfortable spot in your home, indoors or outdoors. Spread a mattress on the floor to sit down cross-legged or semi cross-legged, if you can. Else, it's fine to sit on a chair or a sofa with arms rest and without spring cushion or more preferably, without any cushion unless you have been medically advised otherwise. Make sure you wear a loose outfit that does not put stress on any part of your body. Place your hands, palms up, on your knees. Close your eyes and think of focusing on your breath as you proceed.
Drop a line, share your experience here and feel free even to ask questions. I will be happy to respond. Once you have practiced the First enough, go over to the next, the Second Breathing Exercise. I wish you a great Yoga journey ahead to your never-before well-being, my dear friend.
